RAPEX ist das Schnellwarnsystem der EU für alle gefährlichen Konsumgüter, mit Ausnahme von Nahrungs- und Arzneimitteln sowie medizinischen Geräten. Es erlaubt einen schnellen Informationsaustausch zwischen Mitgliedstaaten und Kommission über die Maßnahmen, die zur Vermeidung oder Einschränkung der Vermarktung oder Verwendung von Produkten, die eine ernste Gefahr für die Gesundheit und Sicherheit der Verbraucher darstellen, getroffen wurden. Erfasst werden sowohl Maßnahmen der einzelstaatlichen Behörden als auch freiwillige Maßnahmen der Hersteller und Händler.

Jeden Freitag veröffentlicht die Kommission eine wöchentliche Übersicht über gefährliche Produkte, die ihr von den einzelstaatlichen Behörden gemeldet wurden (RAPEX-Meldungen). In dieser wöchentlichen Übersicht sind alle Informationen über das Produkt, die von ihm ausgehende Gefahr und die Maßnahmen zusammengefasst, die in dem betreffenden Land ergriffen wurden.
